Biography
April was born and raised in Houston, TX to Dr. Wylma White Barnett and Dr. Herman A. Barnett. She grew up with three older brothers and one older sister during a time when all it took was a weeping Native American to get you to not litter; and Morgan Freeman was still into children's programming.
She lost her father when she was 6 years old. Dr. Barnett (a Tuskegee Airman) suffered a heart attack during a test flight of his Cessna aircraft for an airshow he was to perform in. Her mother was left to raise five children on her own.
After graduating from college, April moved out to Los Angeles to be with her fiance David Green. Less than a year of having been in LA April experienced the LA Riots, her first earthquake and the loss of David to a car accident. Determined and persistent, April made the decision to stay in Los Angeles.
Before the acting bug bit her, she gained experience as a singer in a band, script supervisor, production assistant, wardrobe mistress, and grip. She had also produced three short films in Houston.
Her acting career has allowed her to play roles such as Tamika White, the better half of the attorney couple vying for a home in Closing Escrow with Cedric Yarbrough and Wendy Mclendon-Covey. She also had the leading role in the film Flight, which competed in the Cannes International Film Festival and received the Best Female Actor in a Short Film Award for Flight in the First Annual Brooklyn Film Festival.
Her performance as Lady Anne in Richard III, opposite Charles S. Dutton at The Court Theatre, received favorable reviews. April also co-starred in the Playhouse West production of The Exonerated directed by and starring Jeff Goldblum and Mark Pellegrino which ran for nine consecutive months. April starred as Tobi in the avant-garde piece drylongso/ordinary which was featured at the Sundance Film Festival and received the Grand Prize at the Pan African Film Festival. She has also worked with Hill Harper, Matt Letscher, Taraji P. Henson and Silas Weir Mitchell.
April hopes to leave an indelible mark on the entertainment industry and continue to achieve a body of work that will make her family proud.
